The Year of the Horse

This blog post previously appeared in the Old Office Divvy Blog

Yes, 2014 is the Year of the Horse.

The Year of the Horse actually has five elements: They are: Fire Horse, Earth Horse, Metal Horse, Water Horse, Wood Horse.

And year 2014 is considered as the “Year of the Wood Horse” as per the Chinese Zodiac Calendar, which begins with the first day of the lunar month, which is January 31, 2014, and ends on February 18, 2015.
Since wood is related to nature, the Year of the Wood Horse can also be considered the Year of the Green –and especially environmentalists will love that.

The year of the Wood Horse year brings the possibility for victories, adventures, connections, and ventures.

Remember, this year, under Horse’s strong influence there is no middle ground! Good decisions will be highly rewarded. Bad decisions will have dire consequences. It is not a year for indecisiveness and sitting on the sidelines. IT IS A YEAR TO ACT! One must act, and act swiftly with sound thinking in a Horse year.

Politics and Economy

The Year of the Horse may be a wild ride in 2014 as world politics and economies change, and change rapidly. We can expect the global economies to finally pickup momentum with the high energy of the horse.

Anticipate major movements in stock markets, real estate, the environment, and international politics such as in Iran, Egypt, Turkey, China, and Cambodia.

On a personal level

Since horses are free spirited creatures, this is the year to unleash the supernatural and to break free.

Issues should be out in the open and resolved, especially with people whom we care about. Good business ideas and new careers should be pursued. The time for holding back and secrecy was last year (in the Year of the Snake), but not now…not in a Horse year.

The time for pondering and planning was also last year. Horse year is for action…

Act swiftly and decisively!

Buy that home that you wanted to buy. Have the child that you wanted. Launch the business that you have the passion for. Invest time in yoursel: Learn about new skills, sharpen your existing skills. Travel the world and places that you have been talking about for many years. Seek the promotion at work that you deserve. Have a breakthrough and break free from things and people that hold you back!

On the Business Front

What does the Year of the Wood Horse mean for business? It is the year to be environmentally conscious, free-spirited, and action oriented.

Be environmentally responsible: Recycle, use less paper, buy local!

Be free spirited: Think outside the box, seek your a-ha moments, be a non conformist, break the conventional rules (and by that I’m not referring to breaking the law –that’s a no-no).

Be action oriented: Ideation time is over with, it’s time to act, it’s time to execute on those ideas you already have been thinking about!

* * *

This short paragraph from Joel Osteen’s latest book may be good to remember this year:

“ We were not created to just get by with average, unrewarding or unfulfilling lives. God created us to leave our marks on our generations. Every person has seeds of greatness planted within by the Creator. When life weighs upon us, pushing us down, limiting our thinking, labeling us in negative ways, we have what it takes to overcome and rise above into the fullness of our destinies.

By the way, if you are going to celebrate the Chinese New Year, you can actually do it big! The celebration for the New Year is typically not limited to one day, festivities start on Friday, January 31st and continue until the 15th of February, when the moon is brightest.

Celebrate it….and remember to ACT THIS YEAR!
